Newcastle United are still trying to reach an agreement with Brentford to sign Yoane Wissa, who has his sights set on a move to Tyneside.
With Alexander Isak still missing from the first team, it is clear that a new striker needs to be signed immediately.
Newcastle United played Anthony Gordon up front in their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday. While the England international played well, he does not have the same qualities as an out-and-out striker.
For most of the summer, Newcastle have been trying to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford. As it stands, Wissa is training with the reserves after telling the Bees he wants to leave for Newcastle this summer. It was even said that Wissa rejected an approach from Liverpool, with his heart set on joining the Magpies.
However, it has now been reported that Newcastle are in a stalemate with Brentford over a deal with Wissa, despite hopes that the move could be completed very soon.
With Newcastle still looking for a striker, Craig Hope of the Daily Mail has provided an update on the Wissa transfer saga.

Newcastle United are still hopeful they can get Yoane Wissa deal done
Mark Clattenburg thinks Newcastle should sign Wissa, but they are currently dealing with a roadblock, which may force them to turn back.
Fans will be hoping a deal can be done before Newcastle’s first home game of the season against Liverpool, to give them the best possible chance of finding the back of the net. If not, Gordon will likely be preferred over William Osula.

Newcastle will not be willing to spend the £50million that Brentford are hopeful for because PIF will not allow it. Additionally, Newcastle are still looking to sign two strikers, which would allow them to consider selling Isak, with Goncalo Ramos still an option.
Hope added that Newcastle will return to the table for talks with Wissa on Monday, aiming to reach an agreement.
Newcastle United learn what it is like to negotiate with Brentford
Just a couple of weeks ago, it looked like Wissa was nailed on to sign for Newcastle, but now there are fears that the deal could collapse, and they are forced to find another Callum Wilson replacement.
A player like Ramos is a clear Isak replacement, rather than someone who would play as a second-choice striker. It would make sense for Newcastle to have a backup option in place to ensure they can bring someone in with haste if the Wissa deal collapses.
Unfortunately, the lengthy negotiations are becoming more common when dealing with Brentford. It was evident when Manchester United were trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo.
The suggestion was that Man United were far from pleased with Brentford, who kept changing their asking price for the 25-year-old before the deal was finally struck.
It appears as though Newcastle have found themselves the victim of stern negotiators, a battle they may struggle to win.
