Casemiro believes Manchester United are "on the right path" despite losing against Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim was hopeful of getting the new Premier League campaign off to a flying start against Arsenal, but United suffered a 1-0 defeat after an early goal from Riccardo Calafiori.

Altay Bayindir was at fault, failing to clear a corner, and United couldn't find an equaliser. However, there were positives to take from the performance and Arsenal were fortunate to leave with three points.

Casemiro was disappointed to lose the opening game of the season and reiterated United must focus on winning, but he admitted the team are heading in the right direction again.

"Manchester United always has to think about the victory," Casemiro said after the game.

"I’m not going to say that losing is okay, we have to win. Manchester United always has to win. I think we have shown good moments, and we have played much better today.

"But we have to look for the victory. We are on the right path now. We have a good connection and that’s the path we are taking."

Casemiro was asked about what has been missing at United and responded: "It’s complicated. Everyone can have an opinion. In the last few years, we have reached several finals, such as the Europa League [last season] and the thing missing is to win.

"Few clubs win these cups and we need to continue thinking about winning these trophies and to continue improving."

The midfielder was also briefly quizzed on his future and explained: "I am very happy here. My family is happy here. I enjoy every day at Carrington and at Old Trafford. If people talk from the outside, that’s fine, it doesn’t interest me. I just want to focus on winning."

United have been receptive to offers for Casemiro for the last two summer windows, but no appropriate offers have been received for the 33-year-old, who has entered the final year of his contract at the club.

Amorim selected Casemiro to start alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield against Arsenal on Sunday. Manuel Ugarte was named on the bench and was introduced in the 65th minute.
