Ralph Ineson delighted as BBC announcer goes off script to declare his love for ‘beloved’ Leeds United

Leeds United’s Premier League campaign gets underway tonight against Everton at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke’s side aiming to get off to a fast start.

It’s fair to say the other promoted clubs got off to vastly different starts, after Burnley’s 3-0 defeat and Sunderland’s 3-0 win. Leeds United know that Elland Road needs to become a fortress in the Premier League.

It’s the first Sky Sports Monday Night Football of the campaign, meaning Leeds were not part of the first BBC Match of the Day episodes of the season as well.

Match of the Day featured on both Saturday and Sunday evening, but the eagle-eyed Leeds fans have already noticed an interesting shout-out live on air.

Ralph Ineson noticed interesting Leeds shout out on the BBC

Ralph Ineson is a well known Leeds fan and a Hollywood actor. Ineson has shouted Leeds out at movie premieres before, and he noticed yet another on Twitter.

He said: “All hail the continuity announcer on MOTD for going off script to declare his #LUFC love, respect. MOT”

The clip in question came prior to Match of the Day’s Sunday episode. The announcer said: “Before all that, my beloved Leeds don’t kick-off until tomorrow. But, oh, isn’t it good to be back?”

Anthony Lewis has since quote replied back to Ineson: stating: “Respect back at you sir. MOT”

The Whites will not want to let Ineson or Lewis down in front of an expectant home crowd tonight, with Leeds and Everton finishing off the first gameweek of the Premier League season.

Leeds’ influence globally is why they can become a European powerhouse again

Mel B shouted Leeds out on Jimmy Fallon and Leeds are a famous club all around the world, even despite the 16 years outside of the Premier League consecutively. The three recent seasons in the top flight also served as a reminder of Leeds’ potential.

Leeds’ last year as a Premier League club was back in 2023. That season, the Whites were 18th in terms of revenue in Deloitte’s Football Money League. They were also ahead of some huge and famous English clubs, too.

It’s been two years of Championship football since, but it still highlights the club’s potential. They were rubbing shoulders with Borussia Dortmund (13th) and AC Milan (16th), all while being ahead of Everton and Newcastle United in that respect.

The 49ers could harness that if they are able to keep Leeds up this season, especially with a revenue model mooted as a replacement for PSR.
