Tennessee Titans 23, Atlanta Falcons 20
All eyes were on No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward to open Week 2 of the NFL preseason.
Anyone who first looks at his box score — 2-for-7 for 42 yards — might assume it was a dreadful outing in more than a quarter of work. It certainly wasn't all pretty, but Ward made a strong throw on the run from pressure to Elic Ayomanor and layered a fastball over the top of two defenders to Van Jefferson, who couldn't hang on.
While neither the Tennessee Titans nor the Atlanta Falcons generated much offense early in Tennessee's 23-20 win, the teams turned it on as time wore on and went back and forth until a Joey Slye fourth-quarter field goal put the Titans ahead for good.
In the later stages of the second quarter, it was another Titans rookie making waves. Tight end Gunnar Helm caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown, which came on a contested catch where he outmuscled two defenders, in the second frame alone.
The Falcons kept their locked-in starters on the sideline for the second straight game. While first-rounder Jalon Walker was held out, too, his counterpart James Pearce Jr. logged 25 pass-rush snaps and tallied a game-high three quarterback pressures — his second straight outing with multiple pressures.

Seattle Seahawks 33, Kansas City Chiefs 16
If this game was any indication, the Seahawks' offensive line is going to pave a few more rushing lanes than anticipated in 2025.
The starting combination of Josh Jones, Grey Zabel, Jalen Sundell, Anthony Bradford and Abraham Lucas — a group missing Charles Cross and Olu Oluwatimi — bulldozed the Kansas City Chiefs for 120 rushing yards across just two drives, with 77 coming before contact. The unit also allowed only one quarterback pressure in that span.
The Seahawks ran all over the Chiefs on a rainy night for a 33-16 win in preseason Week 2. Five Seattle players recorded 30 or more rushing yards on the night, and the team finished with 268 rushing yards.
The Seahawks also got efficient play out of their passing game, which went 17-of-21 for 209 yards and two scores. Wideout Jake Bobo accounted for both touchdowns, one on a screen play and another on a difficult but well-placed jump ball in the endzone.
The Chiefs held out several key starters but still deployed the likes of Leo Chenal, George Karlaftis, Chamarri Conner and Bryan Cook on defense and their projected first-string offensive line for a series. Rookie first-rounder Josh Simmons played six pass-blocking snaps after logging six a week ago, and he remained clean in that department.

Miami Dolphins 24, Detroit Lions 17
Detroit Lions quarterback Kyle Allen pump-faked to his left and then fired. Miami Dolphins cornerback Cornell Armstrong was all over it, draping Allen's intended receiver, rookie Isaac TeSlaa.
TeSlaa couldn't have cared less. He rose up and brushed off Armstrong with a veteran-like savvy. For the second straight week, the third-rounder brought down an end-zone shot. Detroit's decision to trade two future third-round picks to move up and draft TeSlaa is looking smarter by the day.
Although TeSlaa thrived once again, the Dolphins scored 10 unanswered points to close out a 24-17 victory in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason.
Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers powered the comeback. After a lackluster appearance last week, he bounced back with two touchdown passes and a burgeoning connection with fellow rookie Theo Wease Jr., who was on the end of both scores.

Houston Texans 20, Carolina Panthers 3
It may only be mid-August, but today's game flow sure felt regular for the Houston Texans.
Houston's starting offense played two drives, with its second culminating in a five-yard touchdown connection between standouts C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins. On the day, Stroud completed 6-of-8 passes for 44 yards, a touchdown and zero turnover-worthy plays.
Houston's formidable defense, potentially slated to be one of the best in the league, also contained Bryce Young and the Panthers. Recent extension recipient Derek Stingley Jr. was excellent on a limited 12 snaps, forcing an incompletion on his lone target. Also, star edge tandem Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. combined for three pressures.

Green Bay Packers 23, Indianapolis Colts 19
Quarterback battles add a needed level of excitement to the NFL preseason, and the Indianapolis Colts‘ competition is perhaps the most intriguing storyline thus far.
Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones duked it out for another week. Both completed two passes targeted 10 or more yards downfield against the Green Bay Packers, and neither made a big-time throw or a turnover-worthy play. It's safe to say the battle continues.
In the end, a late touchdown drive helped the starter-less Packers overcome the Colts, 23-19, in preseason Week 2.

New England Patriots 20, Minnesota Vikings 12
If the preseason is any indication, the New England Patriots are as improved as they looked on paper, especially thanks to their newcomers.
In the team's second August win, fourth overall pick Will Campbell started at left tackle and didn't permit any pressure on seven pass-blocking snaps. Second-round running back TreVeyon Henderson scored in his second straight contest and totaled four carries for 20 yards, with 16 coming after contact.
Undrafted free agent Efton Chism III certainly contributed to New England's triumph, racking up six catches on six targets for 71 yards, a touchdown and an 86.2 PFF receiving grade, pending final review. Former Vikings starter Joshua Dobbs also made a homecoming, going 11-for-16 for 106 yards, a touchdown and no turnover-worthy plays or sacks.

Cleveland Browns 22, Philadelphia Eagles 13
Things just got a lot more interesting in the Cleveland Browns‘ quarterback room.
While veteran Joe Flacco will likely be handed the reins in Week 1, both Browns rookie signal-callers have now put flashes of high-level play on tape this preseason. First, it was Shedeur Sanders‘ 21-point output in preseason Week 1. This week, it was Dillon Gabriel‘s promising eight-minute touchdown drive to open his NFL account.
Gabriel helped Cleveland claim a 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, joining a handful of rookie quarterbacks who have shown off more good than bad this preseason. When there was bad, it stemmed from a fellow first-year player on the other side of the ball.
Eagles safety Andrew Mukuba played spoiler to Gabriel's party, returning an interception for a touchdown and recovering a fumbled handoff. The second-round pick is on track to be the game's highest-graded player, pending reviews.

San Francisco 49ers 22, Las Vegas Raiders 19
The Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers treated us to a handful of drives of first-team football. What more can you ask for in Week 2 of the preseason?
Whether it was Brock Purdy hitting Ricky Pearsall with regularity, Brock Bowers reeling in a deep shot from Geno Smith or Ashton Jeanty trucking naive defenders, the 49ers and Raiders put on an early show.
Field goals were aplenty, accounting for 27 of the teams' combined 41 points in the 49ers‘ last-second 22-19 win over the Raiders, capped by Jake Moody‘s 59-yard field goal.

Baltimore Ravens 31, Dallas Cowboys 13
Baltimore Ravens backup quarterback Cooper Rush looked Tez Walker's way early and often, and by the time the first quarter concluded, the second-year wideout was the recipient of six targets, which he turned into five catches and 46 yards. On the contrary, the entire Dallas Cowboys offense managed 31 yards in the first half.
It was an ugly affair in general, with Rush throwing two picks, Joe Milton III stumbling through the contest and starters logging minimal snaps. But Walker was a constant in the first 30 minutes of game time.
His final six-catch, 61-yard stat line was one of the few offensive highlights in the Ravens' 31-13 triumph over the Cowboys in preseason Week 2.
Dallas cornerback Andrew Booth Jr.'s pick-six on Rush and the pass-rush acumen of Baltimore rookies Aeneas Peebles and Mike Green stood out on defense. New Ravens kicker Tyler Loop finished 5-of-6 on field goals, making two 50-plus-yarders.

Los Angeles Rams 23, Los Angeles Chargers 22
As Matthew Stafford‘s back injury lingers, and his return date grows more uncertain, the Los Angeles Rams are taking no chances with their thin quarterback room. For the second straight week, Stetson Bennett IV went the distance. And for the second straight week, he looked good doing so.
While three turnover-worthy plays stained Bennett's stat line — 28-of-40 passing for 324 yards and three touchdowns — his final drive was all that mattered. With just under a minute and a half remaining in the game, he marched the Rams down the field for a game-winning touchdown against the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving just 5 seconds on the clock.
The 23-22 score moved the Rams to 2-0 this preseason with Bennett under center. It remains to be seen whether his services will be needed in the regular season.
The Chargers got an excellent effort out of rookie wideout Tre Harris, who secured all six of his catchable targets (eight total) for 85 yards.

New York Giants 31, New York Jets 12
There's no quarterback competition in Giants camp — Russell Wilson has a stranglehold on the starting job. But Jaxson Dart continues to play as if there's little separating him and the veteran Wilson in the pecking order. Perhaps that day will come sooner rather than later.
Dart finished his night with another strong box score: 14-of-16 passing for 137 yards and a touchdown, as well as a rushing score. The eye test matched those numbers. The first-rounder played with the confidence of a veteran and the fearlessness of a rookie. He averaged less than 2.3 seconds to throw, whereas rookies tend to creep more toward 3.
Thanks to Dart's output, the Giants poured it on against their New York counterparts and took a 31-12 win in preseason Week 2.
Jets quarterback Justin Fields was less impressive, finishing 1-of-5 passing across two drives. The coaching staff will be pleased with its top cornerbacks behind Sauce Gardner, though. Michael Carter II, Brandon Stephens, Qwan'tez Stiggers and Jarrick Bernard-Converse all made plays for the Jets in coverage.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17, Pittsburgh Steelers 14
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers flashed both young and old talent in a prevailing 17-14 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium.
Although Tampa Bay was limited to just 240 total yards and -0.251 EPA per play, it received major contributions across the board. Second-year running back Bucky Irving hauled in one of his two targets for a 15-yard touchdown; sophomore receiver Jalen McMillan secured his only target for an 18-yard, tumbling catch before exiting due to concussion protocol; and first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka snagged a five-yard score of his own, all in the first quarter.
The Steelers rallied due to a Tez Johnson punt-return fumble in the third quarter, knotting the score at 14-14 thanks to Trey Sermon. The team's offensive line struggled with run blocking, but the team's running backs amassed 90 of their 132 yards after contact.
Pittsburgh appeared in position to leave Saturday's game victorious, but a Logan Woodside interception returned by Antonio Grier propelled the Buccaneers to give Chase McLaughlin a game-winning try. The veteran didn't miss from 42 yards away as time expired.

Denver Broncos 27, Arizona Cardinals 7
The Denver Broncos sprinted at a breakneck pace, while the Arizona Cardinals merely jogged.
Denver went 97 yards in just over 2 minutes on the team's first offensive drive, opening the scoring in a first-half offensive downpour. The Cardinals responded with a 7-minute touchdown series, but it turned out to be far too little to match the Broncos' high-flying offense.
Jarrett Stidham and company also engineered a sub-2-minute, 88-yard touchdown drive later in the half via chunk gains from Troy Franklin and a defensive pass interference penalty. In the end, Denver prevailed by a 27-7 score and racked up 15 plays of 15 or more yards to Arizona‘s two.

Jacksonville Jaguars 17, New Orleans Saints 17
It remains difficult to say who has pulled ahead in the New Orleans Saints‘ quarterback competition, but Spencer Rattler seemed to do his part in moving one step closer to securing the job.
The second-year quarterback made three big-time throws — becoming just the third passer to do so in a game this preseason — and was at the forefront of the Saints' game-tying drive against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His foe, Tyler Shough, looked like a rookie at times but also made a big-time throw himself.
The 17-17 result won't have much bearing on the Jaguars, but they did get a strong showing out of starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence and positive work from their top three running backs, Trevor Etienne, Tank Bigsby and Bhayshul Tuten.
On the other side of the ball, Saints cornerback Rejzohn Wright broke up two passes and Jaguars cornerback Keni-H Lovely picked off Rattler in the fourth quarter.

Chicago Bears 38, Buffalo Bills 0
Ben Johnson's offense has already taken hold in Chicago, with the Bears dropping 38 points on the listless Buffalo Bills in preseason Week 2.
The Bears-Bills contest marked the first game action of Caleb Williams operating Johnson's offense, and the second-year quarterback led an opening-drive touchdown in two series of work.
The Bills rested almost all of their starters in the 38-0 trouncing, so while the scoreline is far from ideal, Josh Allen and company should produce far better results once the regular season arrives.
One week after earning an elite 95.3 PFF overall grade and recording seven pressures against the Dolphins, Bears edge defender Austin Booker notched two more sacks.
