An update has emerged on Newcastle United's quest to sign Brentford star Yoane Wissa.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for Wissa this summer as they look to strengthen their forward options. Following Callum Wilson's departure and uncertainty around Alexander Isak's future, Newcastle have been looking to sign at least one new forward before the September 1 deadline.

Dango Ouattara's move from Bournemouth to Brentford was thought to help speed up the process for Newcastle to sign Wissa. The Bees are said to be looking for a £40million fee for Wissa - and now a fresh update has emerged that will impact the Magpies.

A report from radio station talkSPORT has claimed that Brentford are still preventing Wissa from completing his move to Newcastle, despite signing Ouattara over the weekend.

It has been argued that the Bees are now looking for £60million for Wissa, which would represent a 50 per cent increase from their previous asking price.

The only other way that Brentford would allow Wissa to join Newcastle for the £40m fee which was previously mentioned, it has been claimed, is if the Bees were to sign a replacement beforehand.

Ouattara is said to have been signed to replace Bryan Mbeumo - who completed a £71m transfer to Manchester United earlier in the summer.

Brentford are also reported to believe that it's more likely that Wissa stays put at the club, despite interest from Newcastle. The 28-year-old was not in the matchday squad as the Bees lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest over the weekend, and manager Keith Andrews admitted he still does not know what the end outcome will be for the saga.

"It's a day-by-day one in terms of Wiss," Andrews explained. "As far as I know, nothing else has happened today, definitely didn't yesterday, so as it was really.

"I have no idea what the situation will be, I've been up here since yesterday so we will deal with that during the week. Hopefully it can resolve itself sooner rather than later."
