Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs’ starting quarterback, recently spoke out about running back Kareem Hunt’s assault controversy, which came out a couple of years back. Hunt was cut by the Chiefs back in 2018 after it was reported that he assaulted a young woman. The otherwise talented running back was pretty remorseful after the incident and even apologized directly to the victim and the Chiefs.
Despite the Chiefs not being too convinced by Kareem Hunt’s apologies right after the incident, the team decided to bring him in again during this offseason. This decision by the Chiefs received mixed reactions with many fans calling out the organization for bringing in a player with such a history. In his latest docu-series ‘The Kingdom’, Mahomes dropped a few comments on Hunt’s re-signing with the team.

“What he did was wrong, but I know in his heart he isn’t a bad person. It’s how you can become better and learn from them. I think that’s something that he embraced. He wasn’t going to let that one bad decision define who he is as a person.” Patrick Mahomes spoke about Kareem Hunt’s controversy in the second episode of ‘The Kingdom’ docu-series.
Not only Patrick Mahomes, but the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid, also felt a similar way about Kareem Hunt. Reid also shared his comments in the docu-series, remarking that Hunt had learnt his lesson and that he has received a second chance in his life.
Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs Lose Abysmally To Seattle Seahawks
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs are having trouble finding their footing in this preseason, having lost both their first two games. Over the weekend, the Chiefs took on the Seattle Seahawks and lost with a final 33-16.
Kansas City Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) warms up before their preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium on Aug. 9, 2025.
The Chiefs are all out to add another Super Bowl win after losing badly to the Philadelphia Eagles back in February. Mahomes has won three Super Bowl rings for the team until now and is clearly on his way to add another one to his collection.
In this preseason, starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes only played in the first matchup. Against the Seahawks, Mahomes was visibly missing, with Gardner Minshew, Chris Oladokun and Bailey Zappe taking care of the offense. The Chiefs will soon be playing their third preseason game against the Chicago Bears before meeting the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. Week 2 will be even more interesting as the Chiefs meet the Philadelphia Eagles, to whom they lost in Super Bowl LIX.
