'Definitely didn't': Keith Andrews provides worrying Yoane Wissa update as Newcastle United…

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has provided an update on Yoane Wissa’s transfer situation amid links to Newcastle United.

Many fans are sure to think that this deal should have been wrapped up weeks ago, but Brentford are yet to accept any offers from Newcastle United for Yoane Wissa.

After being subject to interest, Wissa has told Brentford he wants to leave this summer, with Newcastle his ideal destination. Just a couple of weeks ago, there was word that Newcastle were pushing to get a deal for Wissa done, but he has still not signed, even after the start of the Premier League season.

Like Alexander Isak, Wissa is training away from Brentford’s first team while the transfer saga is ongoing. The hope is that a deal can be struck this week, but time is running out.

Brentford are standing firm with their asking price for Wissa, with talk of over £50million being requested. With Newcastle hopeful they can sign the 28-year-old this summer, Brentford boss Keith Andrews has provided the latest on the transfer situation.

Keith Andrews provides Newcastle United an update on Yoane Wissa saga

The hope was that a new striker would be in place before Newcastle’s first home game of the season against Liverpool, but that looks like it will not happen unless there is a sudden change in talks between the Magpies and Brentford for Wissa.

Following their 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Andrews was asked for an update on the Wissa saga by the press.

“It’s a day-by-day one in terms of Wiss,” he told the Independent.

“As far as I know nothing else has happened today, definitely didn’t yesterday, so as it was really.

“I have no idea what the situation will be, I have been up here since yesterday so we will deal with that during the week.

“Hopefully, it can resolve itself sooner rather than later.”

Keith Andrews says Dango Ouattara is not a replacement for Yoane Wissa

Wissa is reportedly ‘desperate’ to join Newcastle, but a lot of work needs to be done behind the scenes before he can get his wish.

The Bees have been working to find another attacker this summer and landed on Dango Ouattara, previously of Bournemouth, in a deal worth around £42.5m.

Many believed that Ouattara was Brentford’s replacement for Wissa, but Andrews has since stated that he is a replacement for Bryan Mbeumo, who joined Manchester United this summer, rather than Wissa.

“I don’t see it, I see Dango as Bryan’s replacement in terms of that area of the pitch, I see him as a versatile forward that I am really happy we have managed to get on board,” Andrews added.

“We weren’t really aware he would be available, as soon as we knew it was a pretty easy decision to get him on board.

“Thankfully, the club have been able to do that and it is a really significant investment for us. It will be a brilliant investment.”
