Liverpool could soon have best attack in Europe as Newcastle 'hopeful of reaching an agreement'

Liverpool will have the best attack in Europe when they finally complete a deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United which has an increased likelihood of happening if the Tyneside outfit signs Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and maybe Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos.

The first gameweek of the 2025/26 Premier League season saw Liverpool score four goals, concede two and dazzle fans at Anfield. The incision in Arne Slot’s new-look attack is already probably the best in the league.

Add Alexander Isak to their ranks and Liverpool probably stake a claim as the best attacking unit in the world.

Of course, it will also add over £110m to their spending this summer but given the ambition Liverpool and FSG have, that seems to be a necessary expense.

Who can Newcastle United still sign?

It’s common knowledge at this point that Newcastle United have struggled to secure their attacking targets this summer but there is still time for Eddie Howe to salvage something before the transfer deadline on September 1.

The English manager has not been blessed with a smooth off-season between Isak wanting to leave and Newcastle failing to land his top targets.

But, Newcastle still want to sign Brentford star Yoane Wissa and are ‘hopeful of reaching an agreement when talks resume‘. The 28-year-old scored 19 goals and assisted 5 last season and is understandably a top target for the Magpies.

There has also been talk of Goncalo Ramos to Newcastle but the Portugal international is not the profile of player that would get the most of out of Eddie Howe’s current squad.

Ekitike, Isak, Salah + Wirtz is unparalleled

Arne Slot could feasibly field a team that features Ekitike on the left, Isak at No.9, Salah on the right and Wirtz in the no.10 role.

Of course, this team will face severe challenges defensively but it would certainly be the best attack in Europe although PSG will have something to say about that this season in defence of their European crown.

With Isak refusing to train or reintegrate with the Newcastle squad, this week will be a crucial one with Liverpool heading to St. James’ Park on Saturday.
