Pelicans sign 6-foot-9, 27-year old forward

It's been an interesting offseason for the Pelicans.

They made a head-scratching move to Trade CJ McCollum away for Jordan Poole.

Their roster already looks significantly different from what it was at the beginning of last season, due to injuries and trades that have occurred since then.

New Orleans made another change to their roster on Monday, albeit a small one.

What player did the Pelicans sign?

ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Pelicans signed forward Jalen McDaniels to a contract for the upcoming season.

This isn't a huge signing, but it's still one that's very low risk and has some upside.

McDaniels has sort of regressed production-wise over the past couple of seasons, after a solid start to his NBA career as a valuable role player.

His best season came in 2022-23 when he played 56 games with the Hornets before being shipped away to the 76ers mid-season.

In those 56 games with the Hornets, he averaged 10.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals.

After his years with Charlotte, he played for the 76ers, Raptors and Wizards, but he got much less playing time during his short stints with those teams.

McDaniels played just four games with the Wizards last season, mainly playing with Washington's G-League affiliate.

Signing with the Pelicans could be the boost he needs to play closer to the level we saw out of him just a few seasons ago.
