Shocking Giants QB move sparks outrage: ‘trying to get fired’

The New York Giants are heading into their first full season of the post-Daniel Jones era, as Jones competes with Anthony Richardson for the Indianapolis Colts’ starting job.

This offseason, New York added a pair of veterans in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, both of whom spent last season in the AFC North with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, respectively. The Giants also selected Former Ole Miss Rebels Jaxson Dart in the 2025 NFL draft.

Earlier this offseason, the Giants named Wilson the team’s starting quarterback.

Giants list Jameis Winston as their QB2 with Jaxson Dart third in line as of now. That doesn’t reflect training-camp reps so focus on the unofficial part for now,” reported NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo at the time.

However, Dart impressed for the second straight preseason game over the weekend, creating some uncertainty around Wilson’s job security amongst fans and pundits. Against the New York Jets, Dart went 14 of 16 while throwing for 137 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions, as Wilson went 4-for-7 for 108 yards, recorded no touchdowns, and threw an interception.

Strangely, and much to the chagrin of some fans, head coach Brian Daboll is sticking with Wilson as the starter.

“Russ is our starter and we’re going to keep developing Jaxson,” Daboll said, according to Pro Football Talk. “Jaxson’s just got to continue to work to get better, and we’ve got to help him get better. . . . What we’re trying to do is help Jaxson be the best quarterback he can be. Just like all the quarterbacks. Just like every player on the team.”

Fans reacted to Daboll on social media.

“Daboll trying to get fired is actually brilliant,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Wilson stinks why wait till they’re eliminated from playoffs in week 6 to start dart?” someone else wanted to know.

“Why do they have to do this to us?” one Giants fan wondered into the void.

It’ll be interesting to see if Dart can win the starting job over the course of the season.
