Why Arsenal's 1-0 Win Against Man United Told Mikel Arteta He Needs £78m La Liga Star

Arsenal won 1-0 against Man United at Old Trafford on Sunday in what was their first Premier League game of the season.

The Gunners beat United, somewhat unconvincingly, but either way they got the win, and head into the second gameweek as one of the six teams to be sitting on three points.

During the game, the goal came from a set-piece, which is becoming more and more of a regular occurrence for the Gunners, with Riccardo Calafiori netting the only goal of the game at Old Trafford against an improved Man United.

Mikel Arteta will be pleased that his side got the result, however, there is a lot to work on, with several disappointing factors to Arsenal’s performance on Sunday afternoon.

Man United win shows Arsenal need Rodrygo

It is understood that Arsenal want to sign a left-winger this summer to challenge Gabriel Martinelli, and the game on Sunday showed that. Firstly, this isn’t a criticism of Martinelli specifically, because Bukayo Saka was also poor on the right wing.

However, both wingers failed to create many chances, not only for themselves, but for Viktor Gyokeres in the middle. Finally Arsenal bring in a number nine, but then they don’t provide him with any sort of chance to make an impact in the game.

If that shows anything, its that they need a creative, difference-making winger, and Real Madrid star Rodrygo is exactly that. He has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool, and would be the perfect addition following Sunday’s performance.

Rodrygo likes to sprint down the wing, and the cut inside, and either shoot himself or provide a ball into the box. His stats last season show that he could be a player who would really be able to make the most of Gyokeres up top, because he provided 11 assists in all competitions last year, more than any Arsenal player last season.

If the Gunners were to sign the £78m-rated winger, he could send Mikel Arteta’s attack into another stratosphere, and certainly help provide a better performance and better service for Gyokeres than we saw on Sunday.
