Man United had been targeting Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, however, they’ve been priced out of a deal.

However, the United boss still wants more additions in the transfer window, and he has been targeting Carlos Baleba from Brighton, who, at just 21, is one of the most talented and promising prospects in the Premier League.

But Brighton priced Baleba at around £116m, which completely stalled United’s interest in the Cameroonian star. So the Red Devils are now having to consider other targets, and they are reportedly keen on a Premier League midfielder.

Man United considering move for Adam Wharton

One name in the Premier League that has generated a lot of interest from big clubs is Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, who has been tentatively linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past.

Wharton, 21, impressed last season for Palace, and is expected to continue his development this year under Oliver Glasner, he is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in the league.

According to a report by talkSPORT, Manchester United are considering a move for Wharton, who has also attracted previous interest from Liverpool. Furthermore, the report also says that Wharton was scouted by Real Madrid last season. The 21-year-old made 27 appearances for Crystal Palace last year, he also has one England cap to his name, and will no doubt have an eye on the World Cup next year.

The report doesn’t include a number as to how much Palace would be willing to sell Wharton for, but considering that they have a chance to lose both Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi this summer, they could be reluctant to sell the English midfielder too.

Wharton has an estimated market value of around £39m, but Palace would likely want much more than that due to the risk of losing Eze and Guehi, and also Wharton’s high potential.

Man United “will consider” Baleba next summer

The Red Devils seem to have lost out on Baleba this summer, but that doesn’t mean that any chance of a move to Old Trafford is completely out of the question for the Brighton midfielder.

Romano said: “I want to tell you one thing, Manchester United will keep Carlos Baleba on their list, Manchester United will maintain that name in their internal conversations, so if it's not going to happen this summer, Man United will still consider Baleba a target for 2026. I can guarantee that.

“Manchester United love the player, Manchester United really appreciated how the player was keen on the move, even in a difficult moment for Man United.”
