Alejandro Garnacho will not play for Argentina in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Manchester United are set to sell Garnacho in the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old has been training on his own at Carrington for a month and has been frozen out of the squad.
Garnacho was not involved against Arsenal for United's opening game of the season and the youngster has been left out of Argentina's squad for their World Cup qualifying fixtures against Venezuela and Ecuador next month.
The United academy graduate made his Argentina debut in June 2023. Garnacho was consistently included in Argentina's squad throughout 2024, but his country has not called him up this year.
Garnacho was dropped for the Manchester derby in December, but was reintegrated back into the squad, unlike Marcus Rashford, who was loaned to Aston Villa in the January window.
However, there were further discipline issues with Garnacho as the season progressed.
The youngster's relationship with Ruben Amorim deteriorated and he questioned his manager's decision to name him on the bench for the Europa League final against Tottenham in May.
When speaking to journalists in the USA this summer, Amorim was asked whether it was a shame it hadn't worked out with Garnacho. He responded: "I think Garnacho you can understand and you can see, he's talented, he's a really talented boy. And sometimes things don't work out.
"You cannot explain specifically what it is. But I have the feeling, I think it's clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. And I can understand that.
"So I think it's not a problem. Sometimes you adapt to one guy, you have the connection. Other times, you want a new challenge. So, we try to make everything okay to all the parts. To the club, to the coach and to the players. So, it's a natural thing in football."
Napoli and Chelsea have been linked with a move for Garnacho. The player's representatives attended Stamford Bridge last season and Chelsea are regarded as the front runners for his signature.
Garnacho's sale would represent pure profit within the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
