Lions’ Dan Campbell swaps playbook for appetizer combos in latest Applebee’s ad

It appears Dan Campbell has called in some reinforcements to help him out at work. But not for his main gig in Allen Park — at his other “job.”

On Monday morning, Applebee’s released a pair of new ad campaigns starring the Detroit Lions coach donning the black Applebee’s uniform and his coaching headset. This story focuses on one of them.

In the spot, Campbell stars alongside Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty, the former Boise State standout who was the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft.

“Alright, Jeanty, time to run the option play,” Campbell says to Jeanty, who is in his full Raiders jersey and pads.

“Come on, coach. You know, I know how to run the option,” Jeanty responds.

From there, Jeanty grabs the end of an incredibly long “play sheet” out of Campbell’s hands as the coach reads off numerous combinations of Applebee’s appetizers for the “ultimate trio,” which allows customers to mix and match.

After sprinting through the restaurant with the play sheet, Jeanty stops and turns back to Campbell, asking, “Hey, coach! How many combinations are there?” Campbell replies, “There’s over 80,000.”

The commercial marks the second straight year Campbell has starred in Applebee’s ads ahead of football season.

Several days ago, Campbell’s wife, Holly, posted a photo to her Instagram story of the coach wearing the Applebee’s uniform, hinting another commercial was on the way.

Now entering his fifth season with the Lions, Campbell and his team return to practice Monday afternoon as they prepare for joint sessions later this week with their final preseason opponent, the Houston Texans. Shortly after, Detroit will begin finalizing its 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 NFL regular season.
