Ben Johnson Gushes About Caleb Williams’ Preseason Game

It’s just the preseason, but Ben Johnson and Chicago Bears fans have to feel great right now.

They crushed the Buffalo Bills with a 38-0 preseason win, and there were signs of much-improved play, especially from their quarterback.

With that in mind, Johnson tipped his hat to Caleb Williams, praising him for his focus and improvement.

“Caleb made a couple big-time throws, in my opinion, to keep that drive going, and some explosive plays there, so it was good. It was good to see,” Johnson said, via Pro Football Talk.

Williams completed six of 10 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown.

Perhaps more importantly, he didn’t turn over the ball or take any sacks.

Williams had some tough days in training camp, with clips of his bad decisions, questionable throws and frustration doing big numbers on social media.

Then again, he’s talented enough to be one of the best quarterbacks in the game, especially with the weapons he has to work with.

The Bears did the right thing by finding him a head coach with a creative offensive mind.

Johnson was the most sought-after head coaching candidate in the latest hiring cycle, and while the preseason doesn’t count, it looks like it didn’t take long before his offensive philosophy has taken hold.

Williams is under a lot of pressure, especially with everybody raving about fellow 2024 NFL Draft pick Jayden Daniels and how good he was in his first year with the Washington Commanders.

Also, it’s not easy to play quarterback in Chicago, given the scrutiny and inclement weather.

But if the Bears have found a star at the position, and with the roster they’ve put together, they could make some noise this season.
