FOXBOROUGH - With NFL cutdown day approaching, there could very well be some disagreement over who should stay, and who should go when the powers that be on the Patriots slash the roster to 53.
It happened during the NFL draft.
There was disagreement in the Patriots war room over the player the they wanted to choose in the second round.
While there was a spirited debate, the situation ultimately resolved itself because one of the players in question - Arizona offensive guard Jonah Savaiinaea - was taken ahead of the Patriots when the Miami Dolphins made a trade to move up and land the lineman at No. 37.
Ohio running back TreVeyon Henderson was the other player the Patriots had their eye on, so they chose him with the 38th overall pick.
With cutdown day a week away, how will conflicts get resolved if there’s disagreement between executive VP of player personnel Eliot Wolf, VP of player personnel Ryan Cowden, and coach Mike Vrabel?
Wolf, who spoke with the media Monday, indicated the process would be pretty much the same as the draft.
“Productive dialogue,” Wolf said. “If it resorts to watching film as a group, that’s something Mike (Vrabel) and I talked about yesterday as a matter of fact.
“If there ends up something we see differently, let’s work through it. Ultimately, we both want what’s best for the team. Everyone does, so that’s the way we’ll resolve it.”
Now, if Vrabel wants player X, but Wolf wants player Y, does Wolf have final say?
“Ultimately, it would be,” Wolf answered. “But again, I think we all understand where we’re coming from. That’s why we’ll watch film together. We’ll take the position coaches and coordinators, and Ryan, and Alonzo (Highsmith) and the pro department, we’ll take everyone’s stock and see and make sure what we do is best for the team.”
Wolf also indicated that he and Vrabel “share the same vision.”
No doubt there will be debate over veterans Kyle Dugger, who has $32.5 million in guaranteed money via the contract extension he signed last year, and Anfernee Jennings, both of whom have fallen down the depth chart.
