Daniel Farke was rumoured for the sack after Leeds United got promoted.

Leeds make their return to the Premier League with a clash against Everton at Elland Road, and Farke will be the one in the dugout for the Whites.

However, it was very nearly an entirely different scenario when it was reported that Farke was facing the sack at Leeds despite winning the Championship.

Paraag Marathe opted against sacking him and has been discussing the rumours live on Monday Night Football ahead of their clash with the Toffees.

Marathe rubbishes reports of Farke facing the sack

It wasn’t just one or two rumours, there seemed to be a lot of noise behind the potential sacking of Farke, and it was met witha mixed reaction.

Some Leeds fans looked at Farke’s record in the Premier League as a reason for it, while others rightfully pointed out that it would have been a remarkably harsh course of action to take given the circumstances.

However, Leeds kept faith in the German, and Marathe rubbished the reports that he was considering the decision when talking live on Sky Sports on 18 August.

The Leeds chairman said: “Honestly, I wouldn’t believe reports. I often say that, when I have something to say, I’m going to say it, and for me, there was one focus: winning the Championship.

Leeds’ record last season

46 games

29 wins

13 draws

4 losses

95 goals for

30 goals against

“We did it in a way that was the best point total in the history of Leeds United, the second-best goal differential in the 133-year history of the championship, and I would say we accomplished our goals.

“And I think it was literally the very next morning that I said Daniel’s here to stay, so I really don’t want to give any credence to any rumours.

Marathe was then asked if he would consider sacking if results start to turn for Leeds, and he replied: “Honestly, like I said, when I have something to say that, then I’ll say it.

“My focus right now is really taking advantage of the last 13 days of the window.”

Leeds must not be afraid of making big decisions

Farke deserves his shot back in the Premier League, but if things turn for the worse, there has to be a decision made.

Leeds belong in the Premier League, and Marathe and those around him need to do whatever is necessary to ensure that they retain their status come the end of the season.

Recruitment is going to play a crucial role in the success that they can find as well this season, with the Whites closing in on a deal for Noah Okafor at AC Milan.
