The goalkeeping situation at Leeds United has been one of the more interesting things this summer. It all started during the run-in last season when Illan Meslier was benched.
Karl Darlow took over as Leeds won the Championship on the final day. In the summer, there were rumours that Meslier was ready to leave after losing his place in the first team. But after the first few months, there was no serious interest.

Then Leeds signed Lyon stopper Lucas Perri. The Brazilian was a big money signing expected to be the starter from day one. Daniel Farke had a huge decision to make ahead of the opening day of the season, with four goalkeepers in the team. One would have to be dropped before the squad is registered. And on the eve of their first Premier League game, we know what decision has been taken.

Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier will not be a part of the team’s first Premier League game of the season. He was left out of the squad to face Everton.
Many could sense the decision was coming after Daniel Farke revealed in pre-season that Meslier had fallen behind Karl Darlow in the pecking order:
”Karl is ahead of [Meslier] in the pecking order at the moment.
”He had a fantastic finish last season and also really good pre-season. So there’s no need for me to change the order.
”Meslier was more or less number 2 behind Karl. Karl doesn’t give me any reason to change the pecking order.”
Transfer interest from France
There has been news surrounding Meslier this week – Lorient have shown interest in a deal, but have only reached out to find out the details. No offer has been made yet. This followed reports that came about claiming that Leeds were offering the 25-year old to clubs for just around £5million.
