Arsenal transfer talks ongoing after they reject €27m opening bid

FC Porto are still pursuing a deal to sign Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal, with talks ongoing as the player was left out of Sunday’s squad to face Manchester United.

Tomasz Wlodarczyk reports for Polish outlet Meczyki that Jakub Kiwior could leave Arsenal this summer, with talks ongoing over a potential move to FC Porto.

Porto previously submitted an initial bid for Kiwior of a €7m loan fee plus a €20m obligation to buy, effectively a €27m permanent transfer. But Arsenal rejected the offer as it didn’t meet their reported €35m valuation.

Even so, Wlodarczyk writes that Porto haven’t given up and remain his most likely destination, with talks ongoing. Mikel Arteta will get the final say on whether to allow the defender to leave.

As well as Porto, AC Milan are in the mix, with Kiwior preferring to leave the Premier League if he doesn’t stay at Arsenal. Wlodarczyk adds that the matter could be resolved as soon as this week.

Kiwior played a regular role in pre-season and was involved in Arsenal’s media day last week, but he was then left out of Arteta’s squad to face Manchester United on Sunday.

James McNicholas previously reported for The Athletic that Kiwior was open to leaving Arsenal for regular starts, though Arsenal aren’t in a rush to move him on.

With the World Cup coming up next summer, Kiwior is presumably hoping to secure his place in the Poland starting lineup. If he continues to have a fringe role in the Arsenal squad over the final couple of weeks of the transfer window, perhaps a move to Porto becomes more likely.
