Michail Antonio was released by West Ham over the summer after spending a decade with the Hammers.
The poor West Ham fans who made the trip up north to the Stadium of Light may have wished they had a prime Antonio leading the line for them as Graham Potter’s side were well beaten by Sunderland.
Potter is now under immense pressure as West Ham boss, despite the new campaign being in its infancy, and the replacement they brought in for Antonio in Callum Wilson looks to be an underwhelming piece of business.

Despite things being far from ideal at the club, West Ham showed their class in a recent gesture they made to their former striker.

Antonio named in Premier League 2 lineup for the Hammers
The transfer window has been a frustrating one for everyone associated with West Ham, but the departure of Antonio was the most emotional part of the summer.
MORE WEST HAM STORIES
Despite no longer being on the books, the Hammers named the striker in their Premier League 2 lineup to take on Nottingham Forest.
This allows the 35-year-old to maintain his fitness as he continues to search for his next club away from West Ham by playing with the Irons’ development team.
Seeing the forward don the famous claret and blue shirt for the potential final time will be a special moment for Antonio, who is likely to be immensely grateful for the way his former employers have treated him.
What has Antonio said about his next club?
After recovering from a broken leg in a car crash, being able to play professional football again would be a miracle for the West Ham legend.
The striker has previously spoken to talkSPORT regarding his future on 10 August, admitting he has held talks with clubs in England as well as abroad.
Those who attend the London Stadium regularly may hope that Antonio chooses to spend the twilight of his career abroad, with the potential of facing their former marksman a painful proposition for everyone involved.
