Everton have a potential gem on their hands in youngster Martin Sherif, and have now made a decision over his future.

Sherif has shone in the Everton youth academy and is a standout striker among his peers, with plenty of excitement over the level he can reach.

Everton were unlikely to include the 19-year-old in the first team this season, with Beto, Thierno Barry and Youssef Chermiti ahead of Sherif in the pecking order, and they have now made a decision over what to do with him.

The teenager is a tall, physical centre-forward, and Everton have now made an announcement over his future.

Sherif heads to Rotherham on loan

Everton have now announced that Sherif has departed the Hill Dickinson Stadium to join League One side Rotherham United on loan.

Rotherham are currently managed by Matt Hamshaw, and have won just one of their opening three league games this season.

Sherif has scored 34 goals in 79 games across the Everton under-18s and under-21s.

This is a smart decision, as Sherif will now gain the opportunity to play regularly at senior level, which he would not have gained under David Moyes this season.

Everton confirmed the news on their official website on Monday, with Sherif described as a “prolific” attacker.

Should he succeed out on loan, then he could return as a ready-made option for next season, and Moyes will certainly be keeping an eye on his progress at Rotherham.

Francis Okoronkwo also heads out on loan

In addition to Sherif, youngster Francis Okoronkwo has also departed on loan, to join League One side Lincoln City.

Okoronkwo spent last season on loan at League Two side MK Dons, where he scored three goals in 22 appearances, mostly playing as a striker or as a right-midfielder.

The 20-year-old joined Everton from Sunderland in 2021, and has scored 11 goals in 49 appearances for the under-23s.

Like Sherif, Okoronkwo was unlikely to gain any first-team opportunities at Everton this season, and his loan move will allow him to play regularly.

The striker is entering the final year of his contract, and will have to impress out on loan if he is to earn a future with the Toffees.
