Former Manchester United player training with relegated club after Rúben Amorim-sanctioned exit

One of Manchester United’s former stars has been training with his hometown club following his exit from the Red Devils in the summer, as he awaits a new club.

Off the back of a very disappointing campaign on all fronts, this summer transfer window spelt a time for change for Manchester United, and it has seen many players either put up for sale or let go for free.

Ruben Amorim’s first summer as the United manager has seen him acquire three new attackers so far, whilst also seeing three players depart at the end of their contracts.

The Red Devils’ new additions all featured in their opening day Premier League loss to Arsenal. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both started the match, whereas Benjamin Sesko made a 25-minute substitute cameo.

As for their out-of-contract stars, Johnny Evans retired, whereas both Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are still without a club.

Lindelof training with relegated side

Lindelof has been unable to find a new club since his contract with United expired at the end of last season. Despite only being 31 years old, the Swedish international is still a free agent.

There was no renewal attempt from Amorim’s side, which means that Lindelof has been free to negotiate with other clubs since January, and yet he still hasn’t found a suitor.

As reported by Sportwitness, the Swedish centre-back has been training with his hometown club Vasteras SK, who were relegated from Sweden’s top flight last season.

Despite this being his hometown side, which he played for at the start of his career, Lindelof will no doubt be looking for a club higher up the football pyramid to help his chances for the national side.

Lindelof’s international future

As for Lindelof’s future for the Swedish national side, who he captained until recently, manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has commented on the situation, via Fotbollskanalen.

He said, “In a perfect world he would be available, would have played the whole pre-season and all the matches. But that’s not the case.

“These are things we have to deal with and that’s why I’m very happy to look back at the June matches. We had some new faces but Sweden looked like Sweden.”

Especially seeing as next summer presents us with the 2026 World Cup, hopefully, for United’s long-serving Swede, he can find a new club soon where he can showcase his talents.
