With two weeks left of the summer transfer window, Chelsea at this stage have not yet made a move to sign a new goalkeeper.
This is despite strong reports before the Club World Cup got underway that they were keen on signing Mike Maignan from AC Milan.
Despite Enzo Maresca’s reported desire to sign Maignan, the deal did not go through, and Chelsea have started the new Premier League season with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen as their current options.
The Spaniard started against Crystal Palace, and despite keeping a clean sheet was lucky that Eberechi Eze’s free-kick was disallowed after he didn’t cover himself in glory with the strike.

Chelsea’s hunt for a new goalkeeper is not over yet
Sanchez made the most errors leading to goals in the Premier League last season, and this is something that the Blues will be looking to avoid as they look to mount a more serious title challenge.
Chelsea fans are likely still hoping the position is addressed before September 1’s deadline, however it looks as if they are going to need to complete more player sales before that becomes a possibility.
Journalist Simon Phillips has stated that while a pursuit of a new shot stopper is not over, they will need to part ways with either Jorgensen or Sanchez before a move will be made.
He said on his Substack: “It’s irritatingly quiet but not exactly over right now. Chelsea have always been looking at names this summer but as I’ve explained in the last week or so, it’s a complex situation and they would have to sell one of Filip Jorgensen or Robert Sanchez at this point.”

Potential Chelsea goalkeeper targets
Chelsea do not have too many targets for goalkeepers being reported right now, however one big name is looking for a new club.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to leave PSG, however at this stage looks as if he is closer to a move to Manchester City, despite the signing of James Trafford earlier this summer.
Chelsea have also been linked with Donnarumma, with him feeling as if he represents the ‘market opportunity’ that is so often spoken about when it comes to Chelsea’s transfer business.
Steve Sidwell believes signing Donnarumma makes Chelsea title contenders, however a deal looks like it is going to have to come from nowhere to be pulled off before the summer deadline.
