Man United need to sell several players this summer as they need to make up some of the £200m-plus that they’ve spent.
Manchester United have been busy this summer, spending over £200m mainly on their front three, and in their opening game against Arsenal, there were signs that it may have been money well spent. Ruben Amorim’s side looked to have improved upon last year, but they now need to focus on player sales.
The likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho are all expected to be sold this summer, but the Red Devils are running out of time as we get closer and closer to transfer deadline day.
Sancho looked the most likely to leave as he had generated interest from Juventus, Borussia Dortmund, and Roma; the latter has been in serious talks to sign him, but there seems to be an issue.
Sancho wages an issue in Roma talks
Amid the ongoing talks between Sancho and Roma, it is understood that the Italian club are happy to pay £20m, which is United’s asking price for the English winger, however, there is a big financial issue with regards to Sancho’s wages.
The winger is on a contract of £250,000 per week at Old Trafford, and, according to a report by TeamTalk, Sancho is not willing to reduce his demands to join Roma, as the Serie A club isn’t in the Champions League.
The report says that Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini is personally trying to convince Sancho to lower his demands, as Roma can’t afford to pay someone as much as Sancho is asking for.
However, time is running out, and Roma aren’t going to wait forever; they could very easily turn their attention to other targets to improve their attacking options, and targets that will be on a much lower wage compared to what Sancho is asking for. Either the winger needs to lower his demands or look elsewhere.
Who else could Man United sell?
If Sancho is not getting his move away imminently, it looks as though Rasmus Hojlund could be on his way out, despite the fact that he wanted to stay at Old Trafford this summer.
Reports have also claimed that a potential swap deal could happen between United and AC Milan, which would see former Chelsea target goalkeeper Mike Maignan move to Old Trafford to become Ruben Amorim’s new number one. However, it is not yet understood whether Maignan is willing to move to United this summer.
