Valley Suns promote assistant to head coach

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Valley Suns, NBA G League affiliate of the Phoenix Suns, have named a new coach to lead the team in its second season.

Paul Jesperson has been promoted to head coach after serving as an assistant under John Little during the Suns’ inaugural season. Little recently accepted an assistant coach role with the Phoenix Suns.

“Paul is ready to take this next step in his career as he moves into the role of head coach,” Valley Suns General Manager Brendan Sabean said in a news release. “His background and experience complement our vision to utilize the G League as a lifeline of development for Suns and Valley Suns players. He’s a natural fit for the job and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact he can make as head coach.”

The Valley Suns had a 20-14 regular season record last season and defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors in the First Round of the NBA G League Playoffs before falling to the Stockton Kings. The Suns also finished 10-6 in the league’s Tip-Off Tournament.

Jesperson previously served as an assistant coach for the University of Oklahoma’s men’s basketball team and the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.

The next season of the G League tips off later this year.
