The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted former Clemson star QB Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and the past few years have seen mixed results, to put it mildly.

Lawrence, who led Clemson to the national championship following the 2018 season, has never quite put it all together in the NFL. Coaching and coordinator changes have played a part in that, sure, but Lawrence just hasn’t looked like the same guy he was in college.

One of the big problems? Fumbles. Lawrence has lost 22 fumbles during the regular season since 2021, the most in the NFL in that span.

Should the Jaguars look to replace Lawrence if he struggles in 2025? Former NFL GM Mike Tannenbaum said exactly that during an appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up!” on Monday morning:

“This is about his fundamentals more than anything,” Tannenbaum said after discussing Lawrence’s struggles with completion percentage. “I know he was hurt last year. I think he’s gotten a little bit of a free pass. I know he has guaranteed money next year, but to me, it’s getting late early. If I’m Liam Coen and their new general manager, I’m thinking about drafting a quarterback if we don’t see meaningful improvement there.”

Of course, there’s a problem with that plan, as Adam Schefter quickly pointed out. The Jaguars used their 2026 first-round pick to trade up in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.

Does that mean Lawrence will get another year in 2026 to prove he’s a top-tier quarterback? We’ll have to see how the 2025 campaign plays out in Jacksonville first.
