Manchester United kick-started their Premier League 2025/26 campaign with a narrow loss against Arsenal at Old Trafford but there was a lot of encouragement to take back from the performance of the Red Devils.
Amorim’s team completely outclassed Arteta’s men on the night. They led on almost every single metric throughout the 90 minutes but failed to lead on arguably the most important thing to win a football game – the scoreline.

Regardless, fans would have been overjoyed with what they say from Amorim’s team after seasons of mundane football.
That said, yesterday’s game also threw up some issues that the Red Devils might be keen to address in the coming weeks.
Defensive midfield, for example, is one position that can do with some reinforcement. Casemiro started the game and had an excellent game against the Gunners. Defensively, he rolled back the years to remind everyone of his Real Madrid version.
However, he was replaced by Manuel Ugarte in the second half and the Uruguayan had a very poor game. Man Utd could do with another presence in midfield and it looks like the club could make a move for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand this summer.
We have already covered the Red Devils’ interest in the Danish play-breaker and that the player would be willing to secure a move to Man Utd, should the opportunity present itself. It was even mentioned that Sporting CP would be willing to let Hjulmand go for around £43million.
Now, reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Hjulmand will be willing to secure a move to Man Utd. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said:
“Hjulmand will be interested in a move to Manchester United, but Sporting need to be respected, Sporting want to keep the player, and so it will not be an easy one. Let’s see what Man United will decide to do.”
Hjulmand has previously played under Amorim during their time together at Sporting CP. The 26-year-old would be an excellent cover for Casemiro and prove to be an upgrade on Ugarte. However, Man Utd need to get the Portuguese club to agree to a sale.
The next few days should provide a clearer picture on what the future holds for Hjulmand. Let’s wait and see how things play out on this front and if the Dane is seen wearing a Red Devils jersey next summer.
