The Green Bay Packers have rarely been in the mix for star players on the trade market. As successful as the franchise has been, its philosophy has typically centered on developing homegrown talent rather than making bold, all-in moves.
That approach, however, might be shifting.
Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons has requested a trade after failing to reach a contract extension, and NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport says the Packers are expected to be among the teams interested.
“I would expect that the Packers would be among the teams interested,” Rapoport said Monday on The Pat McAfee Show. “That’s the kind of team that I would say, if Micah was going to be traded, that he’d be going to.”
The Packers being linked to Parsons is somewhat surprising, but it makes sense. Green Bay feels like it’s only a piece or two away from really making noise in the NFC. The offense should take another step forward after adding Texas wideout Matthew Golden in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Defense, however, is where the upgrade is needed most—and that’s where Parsons comes in.
Rashan Gary has developed into one of the league’s most consistent edge rushers, but opposite him is former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness, who hasn’t quite met expectations.

Putting Parsons across from Gary, alongside a strong secondary and an interior anchored by Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt, could turn Green Bay’s defense from a fringe top-10 group into one of the NFL’s elite.
Of course, the cost to land Parsons will be steep, and there’s no guarantee Jerry Jones is actually willing to move him. But if the Packers make a serious run, it would signal something new in Green Bay: a franchise shifting from patience to aggression.
Landing Parsons wouldn’t just give the Packers another star—it could completely reshape their defense and redefine their championship window.
