Brentford boss Keith Andrews suddenly changes tune regarding Newcastle United striker target

ยท 18 August 2025, 20:30

The Yoane Wissa to Newcastle United saga is getting uglier by the day, mirroring that of Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

With Wissa having left Brentford's training camp in Portugal to fly back to London for crisis talks with sporting director Phil Giles, the 28-year-old has since trained away from the squad after making it clear he wanted to leave the club this summer.

Wissa feels that a verbal agreement made to him last year is not being honoured after he was told he'd be allowed to leave the club this summer.

As Yoane Wissa turns 29 next month, he feels that the opportunity to move to Newcastle United this summer could be his last chance to secure a move to a Champions League club.

Yoane Wissa has had plenty of time to meditate lately

Keith Andrews is suddenly adamant Yoane Wissa is staying at Brentford

Earlier in the summer, it had seemed like Brentford boss Keith Andrews was sympathetic towards Wissa's situation and was amenable to the idea that he could leave, but now he seems to have done a 180, telling TalkSPORT that he feels Wissa owes him.

"I have got a good relationship with Wiss.

"I worked really hard with him last year to try and find goals. Seven of his 19 goals last year came from set pieces. He owes me really, so he shouldn't be going anywhere, to be blunt!"

Keith Andrews' new stance feels like it has come down from the boardroom

It definitely feels like the board has told Andrews to take a harder stance so that they can drive up the price for Wissa and make negotiations as difficult as possible for Newcastle.

As we've already said, we don't blame them at all. They don't want to sell him, so they have every right to demand what they feel is fair to do so. The onus is now on Newcastle to negotiate the price down to something they feel is acceptable.

It won't be easy, as it's very public knowledge just how desperate Newcastle are for a striker.

The whole thing stinks, though, especially with Wissa's latest actions of deleting all traces of Brentford from his Instagram. The man has destroyed his legacy at Brentford, and he's not exactly endearing himself to Newcastle fans who are watching the same thing unfold with their own striker.
