Roma are in talks over a move for Jadon Sancho this summer, but they are also reportedly keen on another United player.
Jadon Sancho’s future at Manchester United has been a big talking point for the past couple of years, but there remains no solution at the moment. The English winger was on loan at Chelsea last year, with an obligation to buy in his deal.
However, Chelsea couldn’t agree personal terms with Sancho due to his wage demands, and so opted to pay £5m to send him back to Old Trafford instead. Since then, Sancho has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Roma, with Roma currently in talks to sign him.
Reports have said that the Italian club are seeing similar issues to Chelsea as they don’t want to match Sancho’s demands, and hope that he will reduce them. However, it seems they have added another United player to their shortlist.
Roma make contact for Tyrell Malacia
Seeing as Roma have been in ongoing talks with Man United over a potential deal for Sancho, it seems that the Serie A giants are making the most of their talks, as they have also made contact regarding a potential move for Tyrell Malacia, another member of Man United’s ‘bomb squad’.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “AS Roma make contact for Tyrell Malacia as left back option. During talks with Man United for Sancho (no green light yet from Jadon), AS Roma also asks for Malacia deal conditions. Tyrell, keen on the move; Besiktas also interested in the Dutch left back.”

Malacia spent the second half of last season on loan at Dutch side PSV, but they decided not to make a move to sign the 26-year-old permanently after he made just eight appearances in the Eredivisie last year.
The Dutch full-back is a player that United want to sell this summer, or at least offload on a loan deal with a potential option to buy. He isn’t expected to generate a lot of profit, as his market value has reduced to just £7m. Manchester United paid £13m for him from Feyenoord in 2022.
Could it be worth Man United keeping Malacia?
The left-wing-back never really had a consistent chance to shine at Old Trafford, as his most prevalent season involved just 22 Premier League appearances, that was his first year in Manchester, under Erik Ten Hag.
Looking at United’s depth at left-back, Patrick Dorgu has become the main choice, and showed his quality during United’s first game against Arsenal on Sunday. The Red Devils signed youngster Diego Leon this summer to challenge Dorgu, but given his lack of experience, it could be useful having Malacia in the ranks too.
Compared to the likes of Antony, Garnacho and Sancho, you could see a world in which United would allow Malacia to stay, and keep him as a depth option in case of injuries, something that we saw at Old Trafford last season.
This also wouldn’t be a bad decision financially, considering they won’t get much for Malacia, and that he isn’t on some huge wage; he’s earning £75,000 per week at Old Trafford, so may not be an awful decision to keep hold of him for another six months before January if an obvious move doesn’t materialise.
