Ja'Corey Brooks
While most of the Commanders' wide receiver room is set, there remains one spot open -- assuming they keep six players at the position -- that no one has truly taken a hold of. Brooks is one of the players in consideration for the job, and he should have opportunities to get a firmer hold against the Bengals.
Brooks, an undrafted free agent from Louisville, has made some impressive catches in practice, including a one-handed touchdown in joint practice with the Patriots that drew some praise from Jayden Daniels. Brooks has been getting extra reps with quarterback Josh Johnson after practice to work on getting out of breaks and creating separation at the line of scrimmage. He also led the team with five catches for 59 yards against the Patriots, including a 16-yard gain.
Brooks still faces a long road toward making the roster. He has several experienced veterans ahead of him, and he must continue to improve on special teams. He's had a few focus drops in practice and hasn't stood out as much while working against the starting unit. He will need to improve those issues against the Bengals to show he is worthy of a roster spot. It wouldn't hurt to make some standout plays, either.
