Newcastle United are back in the running to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea. The French forward is once again at the center of a heated transfer battle. The 27-year-old is no longer needed at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are actively looking for a buyer before the window closes.
Chelsea’s stance is clear: they will only allow a permanent exit. Bayern Munich’s loan offer has already been turned down, even though they say they reached an agreement on personal terms with the player. Reports say that Chelsea wants about €50 million for Nkunku, but Bayern don’t want to buy him outright. Inter Milan are also keeping an eye on things, but they haven’t made a formal offer yet.
For Newcastle, Nkunku is a chance to improve Eddie Howe’s attack, especially since Alexander Isak’s future is uncertain. The Magpies are ready to make a serious offer to compete with Bayern and Inter, and sources say the project at St. James’ Park interests the French international.
Nkunku’s Chelsea contract runs out in four years. He signed a deal with the team until 2029 when he joined from RB Leipzig in 2023. He hasn’t been able to make much of an impact in West London because of injuries and tough competition for spots. Chelsea’s recent signings have pushed him even further down the list.
He is thought to be interested in going back to the Bundesliga, but Newcastle’s ambition and the promise of regular playing time could be what makes the difference in the last few weeks of the market.
Chelsea’s Summer Sales Have Made Them Over £200 Million
Chelsea have had one of the busiest summer transfer windows in the Premier League. Enzo Maresca is still changing his squad by moving on a lot of first-team and academy players. The Blues have already made about £205.4 million in sales, but they still have a net spend of £56.8 million because they spent so much on new players.
Noni Madueke, who joined Arsenal for £48.5 million, and Joao Felix, who was sold to Al-Nassr for £26.2 million, are two of the most well-known players who have left. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Djordje Petrovic both left for London rivals Arsenal and Bournemouth, respectively.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, on the other hand, moved to Everton in a deal that could be worth up to £29 million with add-ons. Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu both joined Burnley, which added a lot to the team’s overall costs.
Chelsea also let go of a few academy graduates and players who were on the fringes. Bashir Humphreys and Mathis Amougou moved to new homes, and Ishé Samuels-Smith and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli were also let go. A few young players, like Caleb Wiley, Kendry Paez, and Marc Guiu, have gone out on loan to get some playing time with the first team.
