Jack Harrison’s transfer saga rumbles on at Leeds United with just two weeks of the summer transfer window remaining.

A large section of Leeds fans have been booing Harrison since his return to Elland Road after a loan spell at Everton.

They’re upset that he was seemingly unwilling to play for them in the Championship, and many would like to see him sold.

Daniel Farke has suggested that Harrison still has a role to play, but it has been suggested that this could be a ploy to attract a higher transfer fee.

Harrison changes squad number as new season begins

Harrison was named in Leeds’ squad for the Premier League opener against Everton, and some fans noticed a slight change.

MORE LEEDS STORIES

He has been designated the number 20 shirt for the upcoming season, as confirmed when the teamsheet dropped an hour-and-a-quarter ahead of kickoff on Monday.

It had originally looked like Harrison would wear the number 38 shirt for Leeds, but the last-minute change brings him closer to the rest of the squad.

Although there are more exceptions to this rule in the modern day, players with lower squad numbers are generally regarded as more likely to be deemed first-team players.

The small gesture to give Harrison a lower number might therefore anger fans who want to see him sold.

Leeds look strong out wide

Harrison faces a fight to break into the Leeds team, even if he isn’t sold this summer.

Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James look set to be named as first-choice wingers for Daniel Farke’s side this season.

Gnonto played a key role in Leeds’ Championship-winning team, making 43 appearances and scoring nine goals.

James scored 12 goals last season, and his Premier League experience is likely to prove vital for Leeds throughout the season.

Meanwhile, Harrison struggled to make an impact during his loan spell at Everton.

He’s clearly a talented player, but perhaps someone who could do with a fresh start elsewhere. He surely can’t enjoy being booed by his own fans.

So, if a decent-sized bid did come in for him, Farke might be tempted to sell. That could prove to be a win for the club, the player and the fans.
