Tottenham have reportedly suffered a blow in the pursuit of Savinho, with Manchester City now planning on keeping the Brazilian winger.
According to Guillem Balague, Manchester City could be planning ot keep hold of Savinho and not let him leave. The decision will come as a big blow for Tottenham, who had been chasing the Brazilian winger for a while and hoped to bring him on board.
Tottenham have had a mixed window so far, having achieved some key targets while missing out on some under controversial circumstances. The latter being the case for their chase of Morgan Gibbs-White, who was close to joining them but ended up signing a new contract with Nottingham Forest.
They have since suffered a blow with the injury to James Maddison, and have been chasing Eberechi Eze to replace the English midfielder. Spurs are also chasing a new winger and saw a bid rejected by Manchester City for Savinho.
Rumours were stating Pep Guardiola could sell the winger and target Rodrygo Goes as a replacement. Tottenham were keen to land the 21-year-old Manchester City whizkid as part of their attacking setup for the new season under new boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs were willing to pay big to get an agreement in place, and had hoped to advance in talks with Manchester City. Savinho is reportedly open to joining Tottenham, and the move was expected to accelerate until now.
Manchester City to keep Savinho?
Manchester City are reportedly planning on keeping Savinho, which could also see them not proceed with a move for a replacement such as Rodrygo. The reasons for the change of mind remain unclear at this point, although it could be something the club and Pep Guardiola might have discussed at length in the background.
The decision will come as a blow for Tottenham in their quest to bring the Brazilian, which may push them towards an alternative. They are eager to bring in a new winger to bolster their attacking options as they are currently short in the wide areas following the exit of long-serving skipper Son Heung-min. However, there might still be hope with the Savinho deal, depending on whether Manchester City’s change of stance changes.
