Even Jordan Pickford's magic water bottle could not save the day for Everton.
The England goalkeeper was up to his old tricks at Elland Road on Tuesday (AEST), giving his trusty bottle a good once over before preparing to face Lukas Nmecha's penalty attempt for Leeds United.
The bottle had it right - Pickford dived low and to his left - but the debutant's strike was perfectly placed and out of the shot-stopper's range.

"That was a bit of a bluff, to be fair," said Nmecha, a German-born winger who joined on a free transfer after leaving Wolfsburg.
"I don't think I was one of the names on there."
Pickford has become notorious for preparing for penalties by taking his time and looking at his bottle, which lists names of potential penalty takers on his bottle and where they might direct their shots.

The "dive left" instructions worked a treat last year as he denied Switzerland's Manuel Akanji at Euro 2024.
Pickford saved Switzerland's first effort in the penalty shootout as England marched through to the semi-finals.
Nmecha's confident penalty in the 84th minute separated the teams with Leeds winning 1-0 after the officials found James Tarkowski guilty of handball following a deflected shot.
