Chicago Bears rookie Colston Loveland delivered a karaoke performance for the ages

Rookie tight end Colston Loveland was not even six months old when R&B singer Mario released “Let Me Love You,” a Grammy nominated track that would go on to become his defining hit and one of the biggest songs of the 2000s. But as is the case with most great music, Mario’s smooth and soulful singalong smash is timeless, and Loveland proved that in front of all of his Chicago Bears teammates late last week.

While I’m not as qualified to judge a musical performance like this one as someone like Simon Cowell, Blake Shelton or Katy Perry would be, it’s fair to say that Loveland’s rendition of “Let Me Love You” is one of the better NFL karaoke performances we’ve seen. It was so good, in fact, that it was picked up by national media outlets such as The Today Show and TMZ, and even prompted a response from Mario himself, reportedly saying that Loveland, “swagged it out.”

At the very least, it’s far better than what Caleb Williams put forth last year when he was the Bears rookie that was being pushed into that spotlight.

Bears Teammates Offer Colston Loveland Serious Praise… Off The Field

While fans in Chicago are rightfully more eager to see Colston Loveland highlights on the field than off the field, the expectation is that sooner rather than later, the ultra-skilled tight end will soon enough be starring on the gridiron and not in the meeting rooms of Halas Hall. But for now, let’s go ahead and let the kid bask in his star-making vocal performance, shall we?

“Colston did a really good job with his rookie performance,” fellow Bears tight end Cole Kmet said, per ChicagoBears.com. “Came prepared, sung his heart out, had some good dance moves along the way. I’m pretty confident that will remain the No. 1 rookie performance of the offseason.”

Kevin Byard, who noted that most of the Bears rookies who stepped up to the mic “sucked” offered a positive review of Loveland’s performance.

“That’s a great karaoke song,” Byard said. “I think he picked a really good song, it was really funny. I think he had a great song. He put a little sauce on it, gave us a little dance, a little bop.”

It’s now only three weeks until Colston Loveland makes his regular season NFL debut. He caught two balls, including a nice high-point grab over the middle of the field, in Chicago’s 38-0 win over Buffalo on Sunday night.

Hopefully in time, the promising young rookie will eventually become a multiple-time All-Pro and one of many Chicago Bears of this era who walks away from the NFL with a hand full of rings.
