Everton fired by claims of injustice as they prepare to face Albion

Everton will head into their match with [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/) fuelled by another sense of injustice.

The Toffees lost 1-0 at Leeds United in the opening fixture of the season.

Lukas Nmecha fired home the only goal from an 84th-minute penalty awarded for handball by James Tarkowski.

The centre-back had his arm tight to his side as he blocked a shot from Nmecha.

But he was leaning to his left in an attempt to block and that was enough for referee Chris Kavanagh to adjudge handball.

Everton boss David Moyes said: "I'm really disappointed and unless you cut the boys hand off, I don't know where he goes.

“I don't know if the crowd plays a part in it.

"I think it's a really poor decision. VAR had a chance to undo it. They tried to say he was leaning to the ball - surely you're allowed to lean with your hands by your sides."

Everton were generally second best although former Albion target Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall produced some good moments.

Moyes had to use James Garner as a stand-in left-back.

He sent on recent loan signing Jack Grealish as a substitute in the 71st minute.

Everton now prepare for their first league game at their new home on the banks of the Mersey as Albion visit on Sunday.
