Shedeur Sanders was drafted in the fifth round of the NFL Draft out of Colorado in 2025. In training camp and during preseason, he has been a fan favorite. In his first preseason start, the former Buffaloes quarterback completed 14 of 23 passes for two touchdowns. Sanders has been a popular choice among fans to make the roster and possibly even get the starting job.
However, recent decisions has left fans reacting all over social media.

According to Michael Gallagher:
Given the team’s unfortunate luck with injuries, especially under center, Cleveland loaded up on QBs to compete with Flacco, trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett and drafting former Oregon star Dillon Gabriel in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft, and ex-Colorado star Shedeur Sanders two rounds after Gabriel.
Both rookies each got a start during the preseason, and while both had their moments, neither showed they were ready to unseat Flacco atop the depth chart.
Though Cleveland’s QB1 is official, the second- and third-string positions have yet to be determined. And while most believed the Browns would take three QBs into the season and either cut or trade on of their rookies, ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes that’s not the case.

“I expect they’ll have four there, they’re going to keep both rookies, they’re going to keep Flacco, so we’re really talking about Kenny Pickett, and I really expect he makes the roster because quarterbacks are currency. … Or maybe somebody calls about one of the rookie quarterbacks.”
Schefter’s prediction is good news for Sanders, who many believed was ranked fourth out of four by the Browns for the entirety of camp and the preseason.
The 23-year-old threw for 138 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in the Browns’ preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers, and many agreed that he outshined Gabriel, who threw for 143 yards and an interception in last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
There’s no question Sanders has been immensely popular among Browns fans since he was picked 144th overall back in April.
Sanders leads all rookies in jersey sales since the draft, and his preseason debut was the most-watched preseason game on NFL Network in over a decade (2.2 million viewers), according to Yahoo Sports.
