'Progress'on'reluctant'United star's exit, with Amorim's needs clear

Roma are said to have made progress in their attempts to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer, though their is still disagreement with the player on wages.

The Red Devils' Premier League campaign started on Sunday with a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal at Old Trafford, though they can be proud of their performance.

Boss Ruben Amorim will be pleased that newcomers Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were able to impress, though he is still reportedly keen on making further additions.

The possibility of more signings may depend on the club's ability to sell players first, though suitors for the likes of Sancho have so far failed to come to an agreement with the player.

TEAMtalk report that Roma have finalised a £20million deal with the Red Devils for the forward, but they are struggling to match the salary demands of Sancho, who is earning in the region of £250,000-per-week.

Amorim's transfer window needs following Arsenal defeat

United often struggled to impose themselves physically on opponents last season, but they were able to match Arsenal on the weekend for large periods.

Despite their strong performance, Amorim's side lost the game as a result of poor goalkeeping from Altay Bayindir, who failed to deal with a corner from Declan Rice in the first half.

Andre Onana is expected to return between the posts once he returns to full fitness, but the Cameroonian has struggled in goal for United since arriving in the summer of 2023.

There are also concerns about the long-term future of the club's midfield given Bruno Fernandes will be 31 in September, while Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro were poor in 2024-25.

The addition of a goalkeeper and a midfielder should be seen as the team's priority in the remaining days of the transfer window.

Jadon Sancho exit: United struggling to sell players this summer

Sancho only has a year remaining on his contract, so his time at Old Trafford will come to an end sooner rather than later.

The Englishman's refusal to lower his salary demands could still be detrimental to the club's short-term future, as unless funds are freed up this summer, it is difficult to see how United can sign both a midfielder and a goalkeeper.

Other players like Antony and Rasmus Hojlund are still at Old Trafford, and the team have in fact failed to sell a single player this transfer window.

Unless compromises with interested parties can be reached, Amorim may have no choice but to use the squad as it currently stands.
