The Washington Wizards need a star to build around and they may have finally found one.
His name? Tre Johnson.
Since the departure of both John Wall and Bradley Beal, Washington has finally accepted reality that a much-needed rebuild was required if the team ever hoped to crawl out of the constant cycle of mediocrity.
After multiple swings in the NBA Draft lottery, the Wizards scouting department seemed to be on the verge of leaving the Wizards as one of the few rebuilding teams in the NBA who have no sure-fire franchise cornerstone to build around.
Fortunately, there luck may have finally taken a turn for the best this offseason when the Wizards worst-case scenario sliding out of the top five allowed for them to turn a nightmare into a blessing with Tre Johnson falling to them at No. 6 overall.
Obviously, the hope entering the offseason was to land generational talent Cooper Flagg. However, when that dream proved to be dead, the Wizards were able to stand pat and land arguably the best scorer in the NBA Draft as a whole.
In fact, [J Kyle Mann](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZuMdtR7vc8&t=1494s) of The Ringer can see a scenario in which Johnson has multiple huge performances this offseason, including a potential game where he finishes with eight 3's.
And if we're being completely honest, that seems more than likely than it does unlikely,
Johnson is an unreal scorer and his versatility on offense make him a coaches dream and an opposing team's nightmare.
The Texas product can create his own shot with the ball in his hands, play off ball and navigate screens at a high-level and his finishing around the rim may be one of the most underrated parts of his game.
His scoring ability will make him an immediate impact player for the Wizards as a rookie and if he's able to improve his playmaking, the sky truly is the limit.
Saying "the sky is the limit" in regards to a Wizards prospect truly should be a breath of fresh air for a fanbase who has constantly watched their favorite team trot out a lackluster roster in each of the last few years.
Johnson could be the player to [reignite hope](https://wizofawes.com/washington-wizards-fans-pain-stop-building-something-special) in the fanbase and give the team's front office something to build around moving forward,.
Expect to see big things from Tre Johnson throughout his rookie campaign in the DMV this season.
