Detroit Lions Rookie Ahmed Hassanein Shares Emotional Message After Injury Setback

Detroit Lions rookie defensive end Ahmed Hassanein is staying positive after suffering a pectoral injury that could sideline him for much, if not all, of the 2025 season.

On Sunday, Hassanein took to Instagram to update fans directly. In a heartfelt post, the sixth-round pick reassured everyone that while the setback is frustrating, he’s grateful the injury won’t require surgery.

“God is good, I’m blessed,” Hassanein wrote. “I want to thank everybody that asked about me. I’m so grateful and blessed no surgery is needed, just time to heal. God is good all the time. I may not understand but I truly trust the Lord timing and in everything. I will be back. Hungrier than I ever been. All glory to Jesus in everything.”

Leaning on Faith

Hassanein paired his message with Bible verses, leaning on faith to guide him through the recovery process. Among them was Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

The rookie also included Proverbs 3:5-6 about trusting in the Lord, as well as John 13:7: “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”

A Tough Blow to a Promising Start

The injury is tough news for a player who had been one of the pleasant surprises of Lions training camp. Coaches and teammates had praised Hassanein’s energy and quick adjustment to the NFL, but now the focus shifts to recovery and long-term development.

While head coach Dan Campbell has already admitted it’s unclear whether Hassanein will return this season, the rookie is making it clear: his story isn’t over.

“I will be back,” he emphasized in his post. And judging by his determination, Lions fans may want to believe him.
