The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed DL Shakel Brown to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team released TE Ross Dwelley.

Brown (6-3, 295) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. After spending the 2023 season on the Injured Reserve List, he was waived by the Titans on May 7, 2024. In 2024, Brown spent time on the 49ers and Miami Dolphins practice squads.

A 26-year-old native of Miami, FL, Brown attended Highlands Community College (2018) and Itawamba Community College (2019) before transferring to Troy University for three years (2020-22) where he appeared in 29 games (17 starts) and registered 58 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one pass defensed.

Dwelley(6-5, 235) originally signed with the team on May 2, 2025.

Following an injury-riddled 2024 season, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has a lot to prove in 2025.

The NFL is releasing its top-100 player rankings for the 2025 season, and the star running back has fallen far from his top-three ranking that was revealed just over one year ago.

McCaffrey has been ranked 73rd in this year’s rankings, a 70-player drop from last year due to logging just four games during the 2024 season.

The 29-year-old missed the first eight nine of last season due to Achilles injuries, then was ruled out for the remainder of the year following a December 1st matchup in Buffalo after suffering a PCL injury in his right knee.
