Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur Makes Unexpected Move to Get Jordan Love Ready

Green Bay Packers fans received some great news on Monday, with star quarterback Jordan Love finally making his way back to practice after going under the knife for a procedure on his injured thumb.

There was no serious threat to his availability for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL regular season upon the announcement last week that he would undergo surgery on his non-throwing hand, but his appearance on Monday on the field further confirms his readiness for the upcoming campaign and squashes even more doubts about his status.

With Love back in practice, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has decided to bend a coaching philosophy with the intent of helping the signal-caller catch up.

ViaWes Hodkiewicz of the Packers’ official website:

Head Coach Matt LaFleur is notoriously not a fan of 7-on-7 drills but felt it was the best way to integrate Love back into practice as soon as possible, especially with the sixth-year veteran unlikely to take team reps against Seattle during Thursday’s joint practice.

“We’re going to alter some things to allow him to get involved,” said LaFleur on Sunday. “Do my favorite 7-on-7 that I absolutely despise, but in some instances it’s good. I’d rather have him do that than just throw on air.”

Although Love is already practicing, he can be expected to sit out the Packers’ preseason finale this coming Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field. Green Bay, which defeated the Indianapolis Colts on the road over the weekend to the tune of a 23-19 score, can continue relying on Malik Willis, Taylor Elgersma and Sean Clifford for their quarterbacking needs in the preseason.
