Leeds United handed new Noah Okafor boost as free transfer option emerges

Leeds United marked their return to the Premier League in perfect fashion, beating Everton 1-0 in front of a packed-out Elland Road.

It was Daniel Farke's side who produced the majority of attacking intent across the contest but in the end a penalty proved to be the difference. Stepping up after emerging from the bench for his Premier League debut, Lukas Nmecha dispatched the spot-kick with six minutes to play.

Leeds therefore have three confidence-boosting points on the board from the offset. There is even potential for them to get better with the transfer window active for the next 13 days with further signings possible in that time.

Here, LeedsLive analyse the latest Whites transfer news and rumours following that important win over Everton.

Noah Okafor boost

With Leeds reportedly 'closing in' on the signing of AC Milan forward Noah Okafor, they have received a welcome boost.

According to Calcio Mercato the Serie A giants have identified Mario Stroeykens of Anderlecht as a possible replacement. What's more, it appears Leeds' ability to sign Okafor will not be impacted in the slightest by this interest.

Okafor will be given the green light to move once the clubs come to a full agreement. They have been negotiating around the €20m (£17.2m) mark.

Only after his sale is completed will Milan then move for their next target, as opposed to prioritising bringing in their own player.

Leeds Live says: Okafor would be another promising attacking signing for Leeds upon their return to the Premier League. He's versatile across forward and midfield positions, plus has a fantastic record for previous club RB Salzburg - 34 goals and 23 assists in 110 outings. At 25 he's coming into his so-called prime and offers another good option for Farke to work with after this great start to the season.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to be available on free transfer

It was reported earlier this summer that English midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was in talks with current employers Besiktas over cancelling his contract. At that point he was linked with a move to Leeds as a free agent.

Now The Athletic provide a fresh update, saying these contract termination talks are continuing into the 2025/26 campaign.

The 32-year-old is believed to want to leave Turkey and return to his homeland, where Premier League and Championship clubs are being linked.

The latest side brought into the saga are Birmingham City, who have reportedly asked for information on the former Liverpool and Arsenal star.

Leeds Live says: Where Okafor brings potential, Oxlade-Chamberlain would bring experience to Farke's squad. That quality is just as admirable in a newly promoted Premier League side. His contract situation is one worth keeping an eye on and if he is ambitious, the former England international would come to Elland Road. Surely he's still got more to offer at the top level instead of the second tier.
