Newcastle United's transfer plans look to have been dented yet again after reports emerged of Yoane Wissa's move from Brentford being 'blocked'.

Newcastle are expected to push forward their interest in the 28-year-old, which has dragged on across the summer and into the new season. However, it has been claimed it is more likely Wissa stays in London as the Magpies won't go above £40m for a player out of contract next summer whereas their rivals push for closer to £60m, or so it is said in some circles.

Wissa has taken personal action amid this stand-off, deleting all mention of Brentford from his Instagram profile.

Eddie Howe and St. James' Park chiefs therefore find themselves in a difficult because they have less than two weeks to push for the DR Congo international or pivot to other targets. According to the latest rumours, they may have scouted out another possible target.

With that in mind, The Chronicle gathers the latest Newcastle transfer news and rumours on Tuesday, August 19.

Christopher Nkunku interest

Christopher Nkunku has been added to the list of attackers Newcastle are interested in, claims Marc Mechenoua.

Chelsea reinforced the idea the 27-year-old could move to a new club before the summer transfer window closes when they left him out of the squad that faced Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener on Sunday afternoon.

Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have reportedly expressed an interest in the Frenchman but Newcastle are prepared to rival either in their bid to land attackers before it is too late.

Chronicle Live says: Nkunku was a perfect attacker - the key word being was. If Howe was able to extract the best version of him we saw play for RB Leipzig between 2019 and 2023, they could potentially have a steal on their hands. The downside is that his injury record and goals/assists return since moving to London haven't exactly been impressive.

Bayern leading Nkunu race

It appears to be Bayern Munich that are leading the race for g at the point of Newcastle's reported entry.

The Evening Standard explain how the German champions have been engaging in talks with Stamford Bridge chiefs, which established that Bayern wanted a loan either with or without the option to buy and Chelsea were not open to this.

They will only accept a full sale, valuing their player at around €50m (£43.1m). They may also accept a lower initial fee plus add-ons.

A fresh round of talks between the two clubs is thought to be scheduled as Nkunku sees his time in West London as over.

Chronicle Live says: There is a deal to be done and still time for Newcastle to sneak in if they want to, based on this evidence. They would have the upper hand financially on Bayern but it would come down to two things.

The first is whether Chelsea would sell to a direct rival or prefer to sell abroad. The second is whether Nkunku's £43m is value for money, compared to a potentially higher fee for Wissa who scored 20 goals last season.
