Alexander Isak continues to keep a low profile after asking to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool.
Isak is at the centre of one of the biggest transfer sagas in world football, having essentially gone on strike at Newcastle in an attempt to force a move to Premier League champions Liverpool.
The 25-year-old is currently training alone at the club’s Benton training ground after rejecting the chance to be reintegrated back into the squad. He missed Saturday’s Premier League opening day draw away to Aston Villa.
Alexander Isak not expected to attend PFA awards
Isak has not been seen in public or by most of his teammates since before the club’s pre-season tour of Asia, and that is not expected to change tonight.
The Sweden international has been nominated for the 2024-25 PFA Player of the Year award alongside Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Arsenal’s Declan Rice, with the awards ceremony taking place in Manchester this evening.
But according to BBC Sport, Isak is not expected to attend amid the relentless speculation surrounding his future.
BBC reporter Sami Mokbel writes: “Just over 24 hours before the awards, BBC Sport has learned Isak is yet to confirm his attendance at the function, which will be held at the Manchester Opera House, casting doubt over whether he plans to appear.

“Indeed, other sources have indicated that Isak – as things stand – is not planning on attending the event.
“Previous PFA award nominees and players selected in their respective division's teams of the year have confirmed their attendance inside the final 24 hours before the ceremony, so it remains to be seen whether Isak makes a late decision.
“Even this close to the gala, it is likely the PFA would welcome Isak's presence.”
Latest on Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United
Newcastle have maintained a steadfast stance on Isak’s future - they will only sell if they can sign a replacement and if Liverpool meet their valuaton, which is close to the £150million mark.
“Nothing's changed, but the door is well and truly open,” Howe said at the weekend. “But, yeah, he has to decide what he wants to do.
“We would like a resolution. When I say we, I'm talking about myself and I'm sure the ownership of everyone, really the players that we have, because I think we need that clarity.
“This season, any season, Premier League season, is going to be hard enough. You don't need any kind of distraction to swerve your thoughts, to unbalance what we're doing. So, yes, but I'm certainly not in control of that and I think there's only one person really that can control it.”
