Newcastle United have two weeks left to complete their transfer business and could have the perfect welcome gift lined-up for a new signing in attacking quarters.

The Magpies have been busy all summer long aiming to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season and their return to the Champions League. Four new signings have been confirmed this summer, and there is the potential for more to come before the deadline next month.

Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey have been snapped-up by Newcastle so far this summer. United are also looking for reinforcements in the striker position, following the departure of Callum Wilson and uncertainty around the future of Sweden international Alexander Isak.

If Newcastle were to sign a new striker, Eddie Howe would have the perfect welcome gift to give his new signing.

As is often the case when a new signing is confirmed, Newcastle would, also, announce what squad number they will be wearing during their time at St James' Park. If United were to sign a new striker, they would be able to give their iconic No.9 as a welcome gift.

This is because the number has been vacant since Wilson left the club earlier in the summer when his contract expired. The number has also been worn by club legend Alan Shearer in the past - and could be given to a new signing this summer.

Brentford star Yoane Wissa is continuing to be linked with a move to Newcastle - and he could go on to wear the No.9 if he were to move to St James' Park. After the Bees signed Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth, Wissa's future at the Gtech Community Stadium is expected to be resolved in the coming days.
