'You owe me': Josuha Guilavogui sends brilliant message to Leeds United hero Lukas Nmecha

Lukas Nmecha was the hero for Leeds United on Monday night as he dispatched his penalty to hand Daniel Farke all three points in the club’s first game back in the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s first summer signing came off the bench and having only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes, was tasked with scoring past Jordan Pickford. It came after a controversial handball decision.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher feel it was the right decision, as James Tarkowski blocked Anton Stach’s shot. The shot hit Tarkowski’s arm which was in a natural position, but he was moving towards the ball.

David Moyes and Tarkowski of course, disagree. Moyes said Tarkowski would have needed to cut his arm off to avoid conceding a penalty. But Nmecha stepped up and scored his first-ever Premier League goal.

Josuha Guilavogui sends brilliant message to Lukas Nmecha

Nmecha joins in the same summer that Josuha Guilavogui left. The France international was a teammate of Nmecha’s at Wolfsburg, and such is Guilavogui’s personality, he remains a close contact of the striker.

Indeed, Nmecha spoke to Guilavogui when considering an offer from Leeds earlier this summer, ahead of agreeing a free transfer to Elland Road. Guilavogui was watching on Monday night, as Nmecha scored.

Taking to X, Guilavogui told Nmecha that he owes him his match-worn Leeds shirt: “What a start to the season for Leeds United in the Premier League. We want more. PS: Lukas, you owe me your shirt. MOT.”

How Lucas Radebe and Liam Cooper reacted to Leeds’ win

Plenty of others with a Leeds affiliation also reacted to their old side’s win on social media after the game. Liam Cooper, who is a free agent after leaving CSKA Sofia, was in attendance on Monday night to watch.

The Elland Road legend took to Instagram following the match and posted a two-word verdict: “some start” while quoting Leeds’ full-time post. Lucas Radebe was also on social media following Leeds’ win.

The Chief posted “great start Leeds United, come on” as well as pictures of the scoreline and an image of some Leeds players including Joel Piroe, Lucas Perri and Pascal Struijk. A great start, but a long way to go.
