'Not true' - Fabrizio Romano shoots down Manchester United transfer rumour regarding £47m star

Man Utd are still working on several deals in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United do not plan to sell Andre Onana before transfer deadline day after he was left out of the squad to face Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League. Ruben Amorim insisted he did not drop the 29-year-old for the huge clash and instead claimed it was simply too early for him to play after he missed the entire pre-season schedule due to a hamstring injury.

The bold decision to start Altay Bayindir instead backfired when he was bullied at a corner kick and gifted Riccardo Calafiori the only goal of the game. It proved to be a costly error, preventing a much-improved United side from taking at least a point at Old Trafford.

It didn't take long for reports to question Onana's long-term future and The Sun even suggested former club Inter Milan are interested in a deal to re-sign him before deadline day. That is not currently the plan for United, who are more likely to replace Bayindir than Onana in the final two weeks of the window.

Romano shoots down Onana report

Manchester United paid £47 million to sign Andre Onana from Inter just two years ago and would need to receive a sizeable fee if they were to part with him at this stage of the summer. United would have been more likely to entertain serious offers at the start of the summer when there was more time to replace the Cameroon international.

United saw a loan offer for Aston Villa ace Emi Martinez rejected earlier in the window, while they also held interest in Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor before he joined West Ham. Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Senne Lammens is admired by United figures, though the club have distanced themselves from a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Speaking on his latest YouTube video, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shot down the initial suggestion Onana could return to Inter. "First of all, let me deny a story from the English press on Andre Onana mentioning he might go on loan back to Inter," he said. "This is not true. Andre Onana accepted the decision from Ruben Amorim on the opening game of the Premier League not to include him in the squad just because Onana was returning from an injury.

"Onana is not injured, that is what Ruben Amorim said, but at the same time, he is still recovering the best form. So Onana accepted the decision. He did not call Inter to go back, Onana did not make any move to leave the club. The last contact as far I am aware was with Saudi clubs at the end of May, beginning of June and then nothing. At the moment, still no movements on this one."
