Report: 'Excellent' striker is now keen to join Newcastle United amid Yoane Wissa chaos

Newcastle United are relentless in their pursuit of a striker, amid the chaos surrounding both Alexander Isak and Yoane Wissa.

No matter what happens, Newcastle United need to sign a striker this summer. Newcastle were hoping to sign Yoane Wissa, but that deal feels like it is on the rocks right now.

Brentford want £60million for Wissa, which is far more than what the Magpies are willing to pay.

Wissa has deleted Brentford from his social media channels, as his dream move to St James’ Park continues to be put on hold.

All the while, Newcastle have another striker in their sights.

Newcastle United turn to Jorgen Strand Larsen

Wissa is not the only Premier League striker that Eddie Howe is looking at, with Jorgen Strand Larsen also seen as an option.

He is someone who would be willing to move to Tyneside, with the Athletic reporting that Strand Larsen is keen on the prospect of swapping Wolverhampton Wanderers for Newcastle United.

The Athletic add that Newcastle have a ‘firm interest’ in the 25-year-old, but talks are yet to begin between the two clubs.

Strand Larsen joined Wolves on loan at the beginning of last season, before signing permanently this summer for £23million.

He enjoyed an impressive year at Molineux, scoring 14 Premier League goals in 35 appearances.

Strand Larsen certainly caught the eye of Alan Shearer, who described the Norwegian forward as ‘excellent’ during an appearance on Match of the Day in April.

Shearer praised Strand Larsen after a win over Ipswich, saying: “He was a nuisance. His hold-up play was excellent and I thought his touch and his control were superb.”

Newcastle United are in a race against time to solve complex striker situation

It is currently unclear whether Newcastle United see Strand Larsen as an alternative to Yoane Wissa or as a replacement for Alexander Isak.

The latter complicates the situation. Isak will only get his wish to join Liverpool if Newcastle can find a replacement, but replacing one of the best strikers in world football is not easy.

Newcastle find themselves in an incredibly complex situation. The hope was that the Wissa deal would be straightforward, but that has only grown more complicated with each passing day.

To make matters worse, Newcastle’s need for a striker was clear for the world to see on Saturday when they drew 0-0 with Aston Villa.

Newcastle have to buy at least one striker before the transfer window closes, whether it is Wissa, Strand Larsen, both, or someone completely different.
